We are thrilled to announce our newest centre in the Children’s Services division – Richmond Multicultural Children’s Centre! We spoke to Sam, Centre Director, about what makes this service so special!
“Natural, Sustainable, Homely and Family” is a simple way to describe TRY’s newest centre. With a large outdoor area overlooking Citizens Park, the service is filled with nature, greenery and animals! The service itself feels like a home, and has a strong emphasis on family and community which encourages children and families alike to feel comfortable here. It’s suburban, humble and homely culture stands apart from the urban and ultra-modern centres around the Richmond and CBD area.
Richmond Multicultural Children’s Centre is also home to two free range chickens and a rabbit. The children learn through these animals about sustainability, nature and compassion for all living things. From the chickens, the children learn about recycling food. Instead of using landfill, they feed the chickens any food scraps– the chickens then lay eggs which provides elements to the meals, freshly cooked by the in house chef. Sam describes the rabbit as a different lesson. “The Rabbit is something we need to take care of. We need to teach our children empathy and care for each other but also for other living creatures like animals or plants.”
